Repair Methods for PE Pipes and Fittings
If the outer wall of a PE pipe sustains damage resulting in fragmentation or a hole less than 0.1 m in length, use a scraper to completely remove the damaged section or hole. Clean the area within 0.05 m of the removal site with cyclohexanone and apply a water-resistant plastic adhesive. Then, cut an arc-shaped patch—sized at twice the area of the damage—from a matching section of the same type of pipe; apply adhesive to its inner surface, press it over the damaged area, and secure it by wrapping it with wire. If the pipe has external ribs, remove the ribs within 0.05 m of the damage and scrape the surface smooth, ensuring no rib remnants remain.
For localized cracks or holes smaller than 0.02 m on the outer wall of a PE pipe, first drain the water from the pipe and clean the damaged area with cotton waste. Apply cyclohexanone to the surface, followed by a water-resistant plastic adhesive. Then, bond a patch of similar shape and size—cut from a corresponding section of unused pipe—over the damage, wrap it with geotextile for security, and allow it to cure for 24 hours before backfilling.
